New Zealand

There is only one place to go in New Zealand and that is Omarama, although I’m sure there will be those who disagree however we have chosen just this one place for now. Omarama is the home of the Omarama Gliding Club, however if you Google Omarama Gliding you will bring up a host of information. A diagram of the airfield can be found here.

Simon Dobby has written an excellent article on his soaring experiences in FSX at Omarama which is well worth reading. View Simon's article here. Ivan Rogers has created slope data files for New Zealand that you can download from his forum post.

A GPS-Nav file containing the Omarama turnpoints for the CAISET instruments is available and highly recommended for finding your way back to the airfield! Download (5.18 Kb)

Also remember to sqauwk mode C with code 1200 whilst VFR on VATSIM in New Zealand.

FS9

FS9 users will require the following:

FSX

FSX users will require the following:

  • FSX Mesh by Thomas Trewin (Oceania1,2,3,4 and 5). NOTE this mesh also covers Australia so when we go there you will not need to install it again. This is a big download at 884MB in five parts but it does have an auto installer for each part so it's easy to install.
  • Omarama Airfield by Lawrie Roache. Download (3.3 Mb) As above, this works in both FS9 and FSX although in FSX there are a few anomalies but have no detrimental impact and will not spoil your enjoyment. PLEASE NOTE: In the instructions for installing Omarama Airfield its says that, for installing in FS9, “You must make a COPY of the AFCAD (AF2_NZOA.bgl) into FS9 / Scenery / World / Scenery folder, to reinforce flatten files from a higher dataset within FS.” THIS IS NOT REQUIRED FOR FSX. Again, if you experience framerate issues with Lawrie Roaches Omarama due to the large number of objects, you can install our Omarama Lite instead. Download (203.6 Kb)
  • Landclass (your choice) by Ian Thatcher as above.

Library Objects Required

The first download required is the basic EZ Scenery Library which is freely available from www.abacuspub.com/ezscenery/ezsceneryfaqs.htm/
Scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see EZ-Scenery V1.02 Update and click on AbacusEZScenery.exe
There is another way as you will see in the Read Me but it doesn’t work for me, hence using the above.

There are a lot of library objects required for the Omarama scenery in addition to the above, there are 2 ways of getting these objects.
You can download all the required objects in 1 from either Lawries Roaches website or they are available from here too. Download (201.12 Mb)
